The EXCEL Zone helps all students succeed. Work Smarter, Not Harder!

Mission

To provide students with innovative learning experiences through academic coaching, individual/group tutoring, technology tools/resources such as individual study spaces, collaboration spaces/tools, professional tutoring, study skills/strategies, computer-use zones and printing stations. A calendar of ‘EXCEL Extensions’ is available now in the events calendar. Coming soon - virtual tutoring!

The Main Zone provides the following services:

  • Computer lab, quiet study spaces, collaboration space, virtual tutoring (coming soon)
  • Tutors for math, physics, writing & ESL

Fall Hours

  • ESL Zone: Mondays – Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Math/Physics Zone: Mondays & Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Tuesdays & Wednesdays 8:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Writing Zone: Mondays & Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Tuesdays & Wednesdays 9:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Math Zone

At the EXCEL Math Zone, CCD students receive support in all math courses through walk-in tutoring, 24/7 online tutoring, group study areas, computers, and study sessions before the next big exam. Or choose to work independently, knowing that a tutor is just a raised-hand away. Join in for topic-based mini-seminars throughout the semester, ranging from using your calculator to factoring to the unit circle.

Writing Zone

At the Writing Zone, CCD students receive help on all stages of writing assignments, scholarship essays, job application materials, and more. Students can come in for walk-in sessions of up to 30 minutes, twice a day on an assignment. From brainstorming to posting on D2L, we are here to support you!

Fall Hours

Digital Zone (DZ) Hours: Mondays & Thursdays | 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Tuesdays & Wednesdays | 1 - 5:00 p.m.

CCD's Digital Storytelling (Intro for Students)

The Digital Zone supports CCD students in Digital Storytelling and navigating the digital experience at CCD. Tutors support the use of D2L, CCDConnect, Microsoft Suite, and the many applications available for creating digital content.

Faculty can reserve the 20 computers with instructor computer/projector by emailing date(s) and time requests 48 hours in advance to ccd.excel@ccd.edu. New: 2 sound booths are available for student recording use. 

Adjunct faculty who use Digital Storytelling can reserve an office/group study space (BLD 104A, Mondays/Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Tuesdays/Wednesdays: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., & Fridays 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.) to conduct office hours on a recurring basis. Email your requests with your preferred date(s) and time(s) 48 hours in advance to ccd.excel@ccd.edu. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

CTE Zone is located in Boulder Creek Building, room 104.

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Zone provides the following services:

  • Computer space
  • CTE tutors for accounting, economics, marketing, QuickBooks, business
  • Adjunct faculty can reserve an office/group study space (BLD 104A, Mondays/Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Tuesdays/Wednesdays: 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.)  to conduct office hours on a recurring basis. Academic Coaching provides the following services:

Ann Pinney, EXCEL's Academic Coach, offers drop-in and appointments for one-on-one academic coaching for test preparation, time management, study skills, and reading comprehension.
