Adult Education and Skills Development

Interested in improving your English or need to get a GED or HSE? Looking for a class in financial literacy? Are you an employer looking to upskill your employees' English? The Adult Education and Skills Development department has classes to meet your needs. Our non-credit classes are designed to meet students where they are, whether trying to enter the workforce, obtain a promotion, or gain the necessary language skills to get into college. 

Community ELL (C-ELL)

Community ESL is now Community ELL or Community English Language Learning (C-ELL).  Community ELL offers non-credit classes that teach core skills in Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. 

Core levels include: 

2/3 – low-beginning to high-beginning 
​4– low intermediate
5 – high intermediate
6 – advanced
​7 – college readiness classes including Grammar; Reading & Writing; and Listening & Speaking

We offer tuition-based and grant-funded classes at no cost to the student.

English Language Learning (ELL) for College and Career Readiness

Your English is good, but you are ready to take it to the next level so you can enter college or be in line for promotions at work. Our non-credit college and career readiness classes can help you meet those goals.  

  • Level 7 – Grammar for College and Career Readiness  
  • Level 7 – Reading and Writing for College and Career Readiness  
  • Level 7 – Listening and Speaking for College and Career Readiness  

Additionally, we offer English classes specifically geared toward students who want to become Certified Nurse Aides or obtain a Child Development Associate certificate in Early Childhood Education. 

English Language Learning (ELL) for Nurse Aide 
The class helps advanced English language learners build content knowledge and literacy skills needed to prepare for Community College of Denver (CCD)’s state-approved Nurse Aide classes (NUA 1001 and NUA 1070) and the State of Colorado Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) exams. English Language Learning (ELL) for Early Childhood Education (ECE)
The class will prepare advanced language learners (level 6+) for the vocabulary used in the early childhood educator profession.  For more information, contact ell@ccd.edu

Food and Beverage Language Institute 

Are you a restaurant, beverage, or hospitality company with Spanish-speaking employees who want to improve their English language skills?  FBLI is a joint venture program of Community College of Denver and the Hispanic Restaurant Association. The FBLI learning model uses flexible web-based learning enhanced by 1-on-1 instructional support and coaching. Equip employees to improve their English language, leadership, and hospitality skills. A training solution designed specifically for the hospitality industry. 

Cost: $500 per employee for a 3-month access window.

Business English for Career Professionals 

This course is designed for English language learners who want to improve their language skills at work. The course includes activities and practice in reading, writing, pronunciation, and listening. Industries include industrial laundry, food & beverage, excavating, landscaping, and health care. Tailored to your business and budget. Flexible location (on-site or online). Equip employees to be more promotable.
