Tri-I | Hot Topics | Human Trafficking: Falling for the Trap

"Slavery was abolished 150 years ago and yet there are more people in slavery today than at any other time in our history." - Unknown

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery where people profit from the control and exploitation of others and is one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises in the country. There are two main types of trafficking that occur: sex trafficking and labor trafficking. Have you ever been approached? Has anyone encouraged you or someone you know to try out for modeling, earn some extra cash or help them with a special project? Learn what they really want, and how to avoid and report it.

Our guest speakers — professionals who work with victims and organizations that are trying to end human trafficking — will help you sort out what is legitimate and what is usually illegal. They will also provide awareness around victims and how they are lured into this industry.

The topics for these events are chosen and facilitated by our students.
