Community College of Denver Welcomes Dr. Bishane Whitmore as President

Colorado native, U.S. Air Force colonel and community college graduate leads the Community College of Denver into its next chapter

DENVER — Community College of Denver (CCD) today welcomed Dr. Bishane Whitmore as  its new president. Colorado Community College System Chancellor Dr. Marielena DeSanctis  selected Dr. Whitmore after a nationwide search, and he officially began his service to the
college on October 1, 2026.

A Colorado native and senior U.S. Air Force officer, Dr. Whitmore brings more than 20 years of  experience in strategy, operations, organizational leadership, and talent development. He most recently served as deputy commander of the 319th Reconnaissance Wing at Grand Forks Air Force Base, where he helped lead 2,200 Airmen across multiple operational units and supported oversight of a $70 million annual budget and $3.8 billion in infrastructure.

“I am honored to return home to Colorado and join the Community College of Denver,” said Dr. Whitmore. “CCD changes lives by expanding access, building pathways to meaningful careers, and helping students turn their goals into opportunity. I look forward to listening and working together to strengthen student success and the Denver region."

Dr. Whitmore’s connection to CCD’s mission is personal. His higher-education journey began with three associate degrees, which opened the door to a bachelor’s degree, four master’s degrees, and a Doctor of Philosophy. His distinctions include recognition as an Art of War Scholar, a Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award, and the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions that saved coalition lives during combat operations.

“Dr. Whitmore is a proven leader with the vision and experience to lead CCD into its next chapter,” said Chancellor DeSanctis when announcing his selection in April.

As president, Dr. Whitmore will build on CCD’s role in connecting diverse learners with high-quality education, in-demand careers, and greater economic mobility. His early engagement will emphasize listening, relationship building, and collaboration across the college and the broader
Denver community.
