If you are a student who has enrolled in CCD’s high school diploma program (HSDP) math course for a future session and you would like to review some relevant math concepts before beginning the course, we have materials for you to use.

Our HSDP review is entirely voluntary, online, and self-paced. Your completion of it does not affect your grade or status in the actual CCD HSDP math course in any way, and you will only be able to access the review materials until the program starts. It is designed to be a study resource for students who want it.

If you are interested in the HSDP review, please contact the Math and Science Coordinator directly via email (see above).

The Math and Science Zone offers specialized workshops before exams to help students reinforce their understanding of key concepts and enhance their problem-solving skills. These workshops provide targeted review sessions, practice problems, and effective study strategies tailored to the specific content of upcoming exams. By attending these workshops, students can boost their confidence and improve their performance, ensuring they are well-prepared for their tests.

Workshops are typically offered before exams during Fall and Spring Semesters. Keep an eye on this page or ask your instructor for future dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access in-person tutoring?

We have drop-in tutoring. This means that you can just come to the Math and Science Zone and get help on a first-come, first-served basis. Here's the process:

  1. Come to the fourth floor of the Confluence building and sign in at the front desk.
  2. Go to room 410.
  3. Fill out a white card with your information on it. Sit down wherever you would like.
  4. You may work on your own or with a group. You may ask for a tutor right away or wait until you have a question.
  5. When you are ready, the next available tutor will come over to help you.

You can schedule a 30-minute online appointment with one of our tutors by following the instructions under the "Online Sessions" tab above. Hours and availability for online sessions may vary.

During all of our open hours, we have support for:

  • All Mathematics
  • Introductory Statistics
  • All Physics
  • Chemistry I

We also have tutoring for the following subjects during specific times:

  • Biology I and II:
    • Monday and Wednesday 10:00-6:00
    • Tuesday and Thursday 12:00-3:00 and 4:00-6:00

    • Tuesday and Thursday 11:00-6:00
    • Friday 10:00-3:00

Tutoring is available to all current CCD students.

Community members and students from other CCCS schools cannot access our services at this time.

No - As long as you are a current CCD student, you can come to the Math and Science Zone. We can assist with anything related to the subjects listed in the "What subjects are available?" FAQ.

Yes! We can provide access to materials related to most CCD math courses. These include:

  • practice assignments
  • instructional videos
  • links to relevant textbook chapters

We can give you online access to these materials, and you can complete them on your own time. You can come to the Math and Science tutoring lab during any of our open hours to receive help with these materials from our tutors.

For more information, and to receive access to these study materials, please contact the Math and Science Coordinator and ask about study/review materials. Please specify which class you are studying for and which course materials you would like to access.

Example:

Suppose you are taking MAT 1340 (college algebra) next semester, but you haven't taken math in a while. You would like to prepare for the class ahead of time. We can give you access to study materials from MAT 0300 (pre-algebra) so that you can catch up on prerequisite material. We can also give you access to materials from MAT 1340 (college algebra) so that you can get a preview of what to expect in your class.

In this case, you would email the Math and Science Coordinator and say "I am taking MAT 1340 next semester, and I would like access to study materials for MAT 0300 and MAT 1340, " or "I am taking MAT 1340 next semester. What study materials do you have that you can recommend to me?"

Important: These reviews are self-paced and not for credit. You will not receive course credit for completing the review. This service is provided free of charge.

Available materials:

  • MAT 0250 (Quantitative Literacy; taken before MAT 1240 or MAT 1260)
