You have several options to determine your placement in English and/or math courses. CCD provides several options to determine which classes are best for you.

If you believe you will need accommodations for your test due to a disability, please contact the Accessibility Center.

Part 1: Complete SOAR Online
SOAR is CCD’s online orientation and an important part of getting started as a new student. It covers key information you will need as you begin at CCD, including how to choose classes, register for courses, access financial aid and scholarships, connect with campus resources, and get involved on campus.

To complete SOAR, log in to CCDConnect and open Success Onboarding and Resources in the student portal.

Part 2: Complete ID Verification
As part of the orientation process, all students are required to complete ID verification. This step helps CCD protect students and prevent identity theft.

To complete virtual ID verification, students must do both of the following:

  1. Upload a copy of their ID using the online form.
  2. Attend a virtual drop-in ID session.

Virtual ID sessions are held every Monday and Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

In-Person Orientation (Next Steps)
CCD also offers in-person Next Steps sessions throughout the semester. New students will receive an email invitation with available dates and times.

Next Steps covers the same important information students need to get started at CCD, including next steps for enrollment, campus resources, registration guidance, and support services.

Bring Your Photo ID
Students attending an in-person orientation should bring a valid government-issued photo ID. ID verification will be completed during the event, so there is no need to attend a separate virtual ID session.

Our advisors will help you pick the right classes, understand program requirements and register for classes according to your program pathway. For details about your advisor and how to make appointments, visit CCD.edu/Advising.
