Press Kit - About CCD

Originally established in 1967 for the Colorado Legislature, Community College of Denver (CCD) is one of 13 community colleges within the Colorado Community College System. CCD is housed in the oldest neighborhood in Denver and provides an education that transforms students’ lives at three primary locations: the Auraria campus, the Advanced Manufacturing Center, and the Lowry campus. The College currently serves more than 10,000 students annually.

Our dedication to expanding access to education, particularly for underserved first-generation, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and/or minority students, is intentionally driven by our mission to provide “our diverse community an opportunity to gain quality higher education and achieve personal and professional success in a supportive and inclusive environment.” CCD is able to provide high-quality education and training at a cost that is far more affordable than four-year institutions.

Programs are available year-round, and we offer day, evening, weekend, online, and hybrid classes to allow students to learn when and how they desire.

The College also offers a wide variety of student support systems and extracurricular activities to enrich and supplement experiences in the classroom.

Diversity

CCD is one of the most diverse colleges in the state of Colorado, with students from more than 40 countries. We play a vital role in opening access to educational pathways for under-represented minorities and are essential to addressing Colorado’s growing diverse workforce needs. For more than 20 years, CCD has been federally recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), which means more than 25 percent of the student population is Hispanic/LatinX.
