MRIG Family Foundation Donates $100,000 to Support Scholarships at Community College of Denver

DENVER, Colo. (May 8, 2025) — The Community College of Denver (CCD), a recognized leader in accessible, affordable higher education, proudly announces a transformative $100,000 endowment established by Laxmi and Raj Mrig, founders of EUCI and the Mrig Family Foundation. Made through the Community College of Denver Foundation, this generous contribution will fund scholarships for students across CCD's diverse academic pathways, reinforcing the Mrigs' unwavering commitment to education and dedication to empowering Colorado's future workforce.

Immigrants from India, Laxmi and Raj Mrig are passionate advocates for the transformative power of education. Mr. Mrig earned his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, and Mrs. Mrig holds an MBA from the University of Denver. Both embody the values of perseverance, opportunity, and lifelong learning.

"Every student with the drive to succeed deserves access to higher education—regardless of financial circumstances," shared Laxmi Mrig. "We believe that barriers beyond their control should never hold back passionate, hardworking students. By supporting their educational journey, we're not only investing in their success—we're helping shape the future leaders of our communities and building a more hopeful tomorrow for all."

"On behalf of our entire CityHawk family, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Mrig Family Foundation, and Laxmi and Raj, for this generous and forward-thinking gift," said Dr. Marielena DeSanctis, President of Community College of Denver. "In 2024, 70% of CCD graduates completed their education without student debt—an incredible milestone we are proud to build upon. This contribution strengthens our mission by expanding access to certificate, associate, and bachelor's degree pathways, while helping students move into high-wage, high-demand careers that transform lives and uplift our communities."

"The Mrig Endowment will provide life-changing opportunities for deserving students while creating lasting impact throughout our community," said Jim Chavez, Community College of Denver Foundation Executive Director. "By opening doors to career advancement, family stability, and personal achievement, this generous gift reinforces the power of education to transform lives. In 2024 alone, we proudly awarded over half a million in scholarships. Every contribution to the Foundation—financial or in-kind—helps us continue this vital work. As a nonprofit, we are profoundly grateful for all who invest in our students' success and Denver's future."

A commemorative plaque honoring the Mrigs' generosity will be installed in CCD's Confluence Building. Beginning in Fall 2025, the scholarships established through this donation will be awarded to deserving students.
