Money Smart Week

About This Event

While open to the general public, CCD's annual Money Smart Week event is organized to help our students be financially healthy regardless of your background and understanding of finances.

As part of National Money Smart Week, we aim to provide you with financial information that will empower you to make sound financial decisions and improve your financial well-being while at CCD and for years to come.

The 2016 Money Smart fair will be a two-day, all-day event and will include workshop-style sessions on topics from budgeting, managing debt, first-time home buying, managing the cost of education to financial planning. An array of financial literacy organizations will be hosting booths and conducting workshops.

Tuesday, April 5

9 - 9:30 a.m. | The Head & Heart of Spending | Freddy Burciaga
In this session you will learn of suggestions, information and tools to help understand thoughts, feelings and behaviors around money.  This will be an interactive session with activities to help with money management skills and tips on creating a plan for paying for college.  This will be an opportunity to identify tools that are easily accessible and free with Money 101.

10 - 10:30 a.m. | Couponing 101 | Angela Rodriguez
Want to learn how to shave 50% to 75% or more off your grocery bill? What if you could pay only $0.50 for toothpaste? Does the thought of clipping coupons and hunting down the best deals seem daunting to you? Attend the Couponing 101 workshop to learn how you can start saving $$$!

11 - 11:30 a.m. | Personal Finance - Make Sense of Your Money | Brittani Nuanes & Laruen Arebalo, Credit Union of Denver
Are you looking for new ways to save money and dodge debt? The Credit Union of Denver, a not-for-profit option for banking can show you the way! Come sit in and learn what makes up a credit score and how to save by keeping your money in your pocket.

12 - 12:30 p.m. | The Business of Craft Beer | Brian O'Connell, Founder & President of Renegade Brewing Company
Learn more about raising money for a startup business and managing cash flow in a manufacturing company, including inventory and supply chain management.

1 - 1:30 p.m. | Be Your Own Boss - How to Start, Own and Sell Your Own Business | Cody Kneipp, Entrepreneur
Covers the basics of creating and maintaining a household or personal budget, including why to create one, how to create one and, most importantly, how to stick to one.  Also, addresses the issue of debt – how to manage it and ways to begin eliminating it.

Interest never takes a vacation, never calls in sick, never rests—Be smart with your student loans, because you do have to pay it back.

10 - 10:30 a.m. | Stream Lining Your Money System | Brian Palmeri, Denver Financial Empowerment Center
Have you ever looked at your bank account to determine if you have the money to go out with a friend?  Do you ever think about where you learned to manage your money?  Take a bird’s eye view of your financial system – the cash flow in and out of your home – through this short informational session and you will learn ways to make decisions about your spending one time instead of every time your friend asks you to go out.

Learn the tips and tricks to using credit wisely, including what makes up a credit score and how to establish, maintain, and improve your credit.
