Lights Out Auraria Information Meeting | CANCELED

Meeting Canceled! Contact Dawn.Cummings@CCD.edu if interested in learning more.

In 2019 Denver joined other cities in the Lights Out initiative. The initiative is aimed at reducing bird fatalities in our city due to crashing into windows.

  • It is estimated that up to 988 million birds die from crashing into windows in the United State each year.
  • Birds do not see the glass, they see a reflection of the natural world and try to fly right through it, most die.
  • Light pollution during migration confuses birds and they collide with buildings.

We need volunteers to collect the data and document bird window strikes around campus. We'll use the data to motivate AHEC to use bird-friendly window treatments.
