About HOAE

All students interested in acceptance into the dental hygiene program at CCD must take this entrance exam as part of the application process.

Content of the Health Occupations Aptitude Exams

This is a computer-based, timed test consisting of five sections. All five parts must be completed in one sitting in order to receive scores and be considered for admission. Calculators are not allowed during the test. Scratch paper and writing utensils will be provided.


  • Academic Aptitude: 75 questions, 40 minutes
  • Spelling: 45 questions, 15 minutes
  • Reading Comprehension: 35 questions, 35 minutes
  • Information in the Natural Sciences: 60 questions, 25 minutes
  • Vocational Adjustment Index: 90 questions, 15 minutes

TOTAL = Approximately 2 hours, 15 minutes

ID Requirement

All testers must provide a valid government-issued photo ID.


  • Client Proctored ($60)
  • Pearson Proctored ($100)
  • Home Proctored ($85)


Results will be available in your account where you were instructed to create and use. Scores will not be forwarded to the CCD dental hygiene program.

Students may retake the test once (a total of two times) within a one-year period. Retakes will be administered no sooner than 72 hours following the first attempt.

Parking Instructions: 

We are no longer able to validate parking. The holly parking lot is the closest lot to our building - in front of the Confluence Building. There is a $7/daily fee.
