Engaged Scholars Program

The Engaged Scholars Program supports CCD’s mission of providing innovative educational opportunities in an inclusive environment that promotes success for all students. The program is designed to maximize your experience at CCD. This program will:

  • Extend learning beyond the classroom and into the community through research,  service-learning, and community engagement projects.
  • Provide you with opportunities to achieve educational, professional, and personal goals by engaging in honors courses and discussions that will expand your horizons and inspire you to become a more knowledgeable, reflective and engaged citizen.
  • Enhance your critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and intellectual independence through conducting research and publishing findings.
  • Impact your personal and intellectual growth by attending workshops focusing on leadership, self-efficacy, college success, and diversity.
  • Provide opportunities for you to use skills and knowledge in real-life situations.

When you join Engaged Scholars, you will be part of a dynamic, academic community of learners. Guided course work, faculty mentorship, experiential learning, undergraduate research, service learning, and leadership training will shape this program.

Students will be selected based on a combination of the following criteria:

  • College GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Successful completion of college-level math and English course
  • 1 recommendation letter
  • Program admission application
  • Interview

If admitted into the Engaged Scholars Program, you will be expected to:

  • Attend a required Orientation Session
  • Meet with an academic advisor and mentor once a month or at least 3 times per semester
  • Complete HNR 100 (1 credit; Honors Seminar)
  • Complete HNR 289 (2 credit; Honors Capstone)
  • Attend and present research at the Graduation Banquet
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Complete a leadership training module
  • Actively participate in a service-learning project
