Work-based learning is a teaching methodology that blurs the lines between school and work. These activities provide a learner with hands-on experience that allows them to apply the knowledge of the classroom in a simulated work environment. Work-based learning activities can include field trips, guest speakers, service-learning projects, internships, apprenticeships and clinicals. These activities are often coordinated by program chairs in collaboration with business, industry, and non-profit organizations. Click the tabs below to see what programs at Community College of Denver participate in formal work-based learning programs.
Apprenticeships are unique earn-and-learn models that allow students to receive on-the-job training alongside supplemental related training and instruction. An apprentice may attend a college course a couple of days a week and work on-site under a skilled employee for the remaining days in the week. To learn more about what programs at Community College of Denver offer apprenticeships click on the links below. If you would like to host an apprentice, you can reach out directly to the program chair listed in the top-right corner of each program page.

Internships are a proven model for connecting theory to practice. Internships allow students to apply what they are learning in class to a real work environment. As a community partner or employer, you can connect with a program chair to host an intern at your site. Hosting an intern allows you to connect with talent early on in their educational programming and recruit for future positions. Interns also bring some skills in their program discipline that your organization can use to complete special projects or assignments. See below for a list of programs hosting interns. If you are interested in setting up an internship, reach out to the program chair for more information.
