Community College of Denver Announces Practical Nursing Registered Apprenticeship Program, the First in the State of Colorado

Community College of Denver (CCD) is proud to announce our new Practical Nursing (PN) U.S. Department of Labor (US DOL) Registered Apprenticeship Program, the first program of its kind in Colorado. Through this innovative program, students will have the opportunity to earn wages and gain valuable hands-on experience while they earn a Practical Nursing certificate.

CCD is partnering with Inspiration Home Health Care for this program. Apprentices will earn a CCD certificate in Practical Nursing, a certificate of completion from the US DOL, and be eligible to sit for their NCLEX-PN exam in order to be eligible for PN licensure.

“CCD is excited to build innovative programming with our health care industry partners to educate the next generation of practical nurses and build a strong pipeline for our region that faces a shortage of nurses,” said Dr. Fida Obeidi, Dean for the Center for Health and Natural Sciences. “With this innovative programming and partnership, not only are we increasing access to higher education, but we also are decreasing equity gaps.”

“Healthcare apprenticeships are a strong model for the future to help people break into the healthcare industry, supply employers with the talent they need, and provider better care to our Colorado patients. Apprenticeship programs are valuable recruitment and retention tools for employers to use to build their talent pipelines”, said Jennifer Vander Meer, Director of Practical Nursing at CCD.
