Last summer, four students from CCD’s Architectural Technologies program designed and installed a Community Expression Box in the Cherry Creek courtyard. David Morrison, Chris Redcross, Ryan Richer, and Cameron Schumacher envisioned a space for creative exchange, creating a sense of connection and relatedness within the campus community.

David Morrison said of the Expression Box, “People can take and/or leave items that are meaningful or useful to them with a personal note attached. Users can leave a great variety of objects—an inspiring book, a family recipe, a favorite CD, a personal poem—that will make you smile, laugh, or think.”

A contest was held to find an artist to decorate the box, to give it more presence in the courtyard, and to draw in participants. CCD Visual Arts student Samantha Manion was chosen based on her thoughtful entry and written explanation.
