Impact Newsletter December 2020

Vol.1, Issue 3 Dec 2020

From the Executive Director |  All the Children of the World

In a recent note from a student, I read this, “No words can thank you enough for this help.  I am a single mom and work full time at night to support myself and my little boy.  With this amazing blessing, (I can face my) current financial hardships."

As 2020 ends, the Community College of Denver (CCD) Foundation celebrates the persistence of our CCD students and the generosity of our community this past year.  In 2019 – 2020, the CCD Foundation raised a record $1.4 million and awarded more than $753,000 in scholarships and COVID-19 assistance, a 26% increase over the previous year.

Thanks to your generosity, we have not yet turned down a single request for assistance from a CCD student!

Another student recently wrote, “Your generosity has inspired me to help others, especially all children in the world. “

As we approach 2021, our goal is to continue to be that reliable resource to students who are working hard to achieve their dreams and provide a better life for their families.  Our end-of-year fundraising goal to replenish our resources is $75,000.  To date, we have received nearly $20,000, for which we are grateful, but we still have a ways to go!

Please join with others and make a gift before year’s end.  Be assured that your support will directly help the children in our community.  Thank you, and warm wishes to you and your family this holiday season.

“Joy to the World – all the boys and girls…!”

CCD's New President, Dr. Marielena DeSanctis

Following a nationwide search, Colorado Community College System (CCCS) Chancellor Joe Garcia announced Dr. Marielena DeSanctis as the next president of Community College of Denver (CCD).

When Reality Hits Hard: New Grants Help Students Find Community Assistance

The CCD Foundation recognizes the generosity of Liberty Global, a Denver-based corporation, and the Denver Foundation for supporting a new program for students at CCD.  Single Stop is a technology platform that matches students with local community assistance for food, housing, childcare, legal, tax, and other available resources. Single Stop has demonstrated impressive results in other community colleges around the nation in helping students overcome obstacles that often force them to drop out of college and not complete their education. Collectively, these new grants equal almost $30,000. CCD is excited to add this valuable resource to its student support programs. Thank you Liberty Global and Denver Foundation!

CCD Employees Share the Holiday Spirit

Every year, the employees at Community College of Denver provide extra support to students in the form of a toy drive, to help their families have a wonderful holiday season. Usually, the toys are handed out at an on-campus Winter Wonderland event. This year, the event has gone virtual, but the feeling is the same. Employees contributed $515 that will be distributed as gift cards to more than 25 students in time for Christmas.

Thank you to Those who Supported our 8 Days of Giving Campaign

We want to thank everyone who donated to the CCD Foundation’s 8 Days of Giving Campaign earlier this month. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised more than $10,000 in just ten days! You can still donate to the campaign at coloradogives.org/8days. Thank you!
