For many students at the Community College of Denver (CCD), the COVID-19 pandemic has created unexpected hardship and uncertainty. Based on Federal Financial Aid guidelines, most CCD students are classified as high need. They are enrolled part-time and working their way through college with the kinds of jobs in the service industry that have now utterly disappeared.
While classes continue online, many CCD students are not only faced with a food and housing crisis, but they are also forced to decide whether or not to pay their monthly tuition bill or put food on the table.
For example, one student works in his family’s flower shop. He isn’t sure how long they will be able to keep the business open due to the reduction in customers, putting not only his employment at risk but also his family’s livelihood.
The Community College of Denver Foundation is dedicated to our students’ well-being and ensuring that they can remain in their classes and complete the spring semester. This is a critical time in their lives and this crisis has the potential to derail their goals and dreams. We CAN’T let that happen!
The COVID-19 Student Emergency Aid Fund will provide support to help students pay the balance of their tuition and assist with rent, food, technology assistance, and childcare expenses. It is amazing to me what a difference even a hundred dollars can make to a student struggling to make ends meet!
The CCD Foundation (CCDF) will seed this fund with $10,000. In addition, the Foundation will match the first $5000 donated to the emergency aid fund to assist in reaching our initial goal of $20,000.
CCD students are the future of the Denver community! Please help us to ensure that they don’t fail due to the lack of a few hundred dollars. Your gift will change a life, strengthen our community, and ripple for generations to come!
Give what you can to the COVID-19 Student Emergency Aid Fund and remember, the first $5000 donated will be matched dollar for dollar by the CCD Foundation!
