Run for a position yourself or pass this information about the available opportunities to a student you would recommend as an ideal candidate for an open position. SGA members are Student Leaders. As a Student Leader you can advocate for students on a local, state and even national level and learn valuable skills to use in your future endeavors and daily life.

This is also a great way to give CCD students the voice, power and strength needed to direct our college experience in the ways we envision it and to help you have a memorable experience throughout your community college journey!

Students from each of the three institutions will have the opportunity to vote on student fees for services that impact campus life. The process to vote on these issues is separate from the Student Government Association elections and institution-specific fees. Please read the information below.

You may vote on two items this spring:

Compost Fee ($3)

We (The Auraria Student Body) see the overwhelming buildup of physical waste in landfills and bodies of water as a serious and immediate issue to be dealt with. Being a tri-institutional campus, we realize our substantial contribution to the waste stream, and that currently only an average of 20% of our material waste is diverted from the landfill. We also recognize that, on average, 40% of food in the United States is wasted and ends up in landfills. To increase our diversion rate, reduce our environmental impact, encourage the use of compostable materials, and recycle any potential food waste into compost, we propose an expansion of the composting infrastructure and collection for all buildings on campus.

Therefore, “Shall the students of the Auraria Campus (the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Denver at the Downtown Denver Auraria Campus) authorize the Board of Directors of the Auraria Higher Education Center to assess each institution a student fee increase of $3 per student, per semester, for an expansion of the current Auraria Sustainable Campus Program’s fee of $5.58, to primarily fund the addition of composting services and the enhancement and ongoing maintenance of waste diversion among campus buildings and exterior spaces? The new total ASCP fee amount of $8.58 per student, per semester, would take effect beginning in the fall of 2020. The fee may be adjusted each year thereafter for inflation by the Auraria Board of Directors without a student referendum. The inflation rate shall be defined as the rate of change in the consumer price index for urban wage earners for the Denver-Boulder-Greeley area as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.”

RTD COLLEGE PASS PROGRAM ($131, Continuing Fee Voted On Each Year):

“Shall the students of the Auraria Campus (the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Denver at the Downtown Denver Auraria Campus) authorize the Board of Directors of the Auraria Higher Education Center to assess each institution a student fee not to exceed $131.00 per student per semester including the established institutional collection fee, from August 17, 2020, through August 16, 2021, for the purpose of establishing an extension of the College Pass Program (Student Bus and Light Rail Pass)?”

You may vote on one item this spring:

 SSAC Fee (1$):

Shall there be a Colorado Community College System (CCCS or System) - wide State Student Advisory Council (SSAC) student fee, for the purpose of elevating the overall CCCS student voice and to create a more equitable experience across the Council. The student fee money collected would allow for all the SSAC representatives across the thirteen colleges to receive the same stipend of $300 per month for serving on SSAC. Additionally, the fee would allow for the System to hire a dedicated position (1 FTE) to support SSAC. This position’s duties could include but need not be limited to day to day logistics, marketing, research, educating on SSAC and its initiatives System-wide, and recruiting future SSAC members. Any fee money kept in reserve may allow for SSAC to utilize the funds towards large scale student organizational events, affinity group events that would benefit all CCCS students.

The System Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, or their successor, will have administrative oversight and final decision-making authority over the use of the monies generated from this fee.

The student fee shall be for $1 per student, regardless of credits enrolled, per semester. This fee will continue indefinitely; however, there will be an evaluation every ten (10) years to ensure that SSAC is functioning as intended. This fee is subject to increase every three (3) years for inflation pursuant to the Denver-Boulder-Greeley Consumer Price Index (CPI).

We are excited to include you in this process and find out who our CCD future leaders will be!

With all the love,
