Imagine if you were a nursing student and able to practice ‘scary’ patient scenarios on a manikin that breaths, has a heartbeat and talks to you just like a real patient. The Nursing Simulation Lab on the Lowry Campus is just such a place.
The Simulation Lab is a safe place for nursing students to perfect their hospital patient care nursing skills. If the student makes a mistake, the manikin will not complain. This makes the Nursing Simulation Lab a very valuable learning experience for our students.
Since the Nursing Simulation Lab is a Learner Centered Classroom, students are guided to critique themselves and their performance. Research has shown that this teaching technique called ‘reflection on action’ is quite effective.
The Nursing Simulation Lab has three high fidelity adult manikins, three high fidelity baby manikins and one high fidelity maternity manikin that is able to give birth to a baby. The Nursing Simulation Lab is currently undergoing renovation to more effectively service the nursing students.
