Advising is critical to your success as a student nurse in the Community College of Denver Nursing Program. You will have classes to take, prerequisites to complete, and guidance in terms of study techniques, the use of our learning labs, and consultations with your professors. The nursing advising staff is here to guide you through all facets of your educational experience here at the Center for Health Sciences at Lowry, as you chart your course to obtain a certificate in Practical Nursing or an Associate Degree in Nursing. To guide you through this whole educational nursing process, you will be assigned to an Educational Case Manager (ECM) for the length of your nursing program. Case managers are dedicated to your success and offer an open door policy for students with questions needing answers to situations as they occur through your educational experience to becoming a nurse. Areas that the case managers will assist you include the following:
Program Advising. The educational case managers assists new and current students with the correct program plans for PN and ADN course work. The case managers assist students with one-on-one advising and by emailing students with current updates on policy changes occurring in the nursing program.
Course Registration. The ECM’s assist students with registration procedures add/drop procedures, and the student handbook as it pertains to withdrawal policies and other requirements.
Financial Aid The ECM’s assist students with general account information, Measurable Academic Progress (MAP) and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeal paperwork for re-entry into the nursing program.
Student Account Information. The ECM’s educate students on how to use their Banner accounts, WebCT accounts, and how to setup official school email systems.
Student Success Plans. The ECM’s collaborate with the student and the instructor to set up student success plans and to ensure that students are on the right study tracks for success.
Student Life Development. The ECM’s steer the student life committee composed of students and faculty. The committee navigate ways to improve student life at the Center for Health Sciences at Lowry.
PN and ADN Pinning Ceremonies. The ECM’s steer the committee to set-up the graduation and pinning ceremony for PN and ADN graduates completing their course work in nursing.
Student Services. The ECM’s assist students in securing child care, tutoring, and other support resources to help students be successful in the nursing program.
It is also recommended that you attend one informational meetings given the first Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at Lowry (except July and December). Call in or email either of the two educational advisors to let us know you will be attending.
