RETEST PROCEDURES:
- There is no charge for the first time taking the Basic Skills Assessment Test.
- The first retest on the Basic Skills Assessment Test or the English as a Second Language Test is $5.00 per section.
- A second retest MUST be approved by an advisor, or by the Director or Assistant Director of Assessment, who will check to see that the student has studied and reviewed their skills. This might be using a tutorial computer program, the study guides, a tutor, or the use of other books or materials. The student must pay the $5.00 per section fee again. A Retake Permit must be submitted from an advisor.
- There is a one-day waiting period between retaking the test.
- The retest must be taken before the last day to drop/add a course.
- The test cannot be taken beyond three times within the same semester. Authorization for more testing can only be given by the Director or Assistant Director of Assessment. Scores from another institution constituting a fourth attempt or beyond within the same semester will NOT be accepted.
SKIPPING A SEQUENCE LEVEL COURSE: (For all courses except math*.)
Should a student want to retake a portion of the assessment for the purpose of skipping a sequence level class, the student can take the test only ONCE and must pay the $5.00 retest fee. They also must have received a grade of C or higher in the prior course, or have written permission from their instructor if prior to the assignment of final grades.
*SKIPPING A SEQUENCE LEVEL MATH COURSE;
- A retest is not allowed for the purpose of skipping sequence level math courses.
An appeal to this policy is granted ONLY with permission of the Math Department Chair and the student’s math instructor.
