 Board of Directors

Karén Bleeker, Ed.D., is the President at Community College of Denver. Dr. Bleeker was appointed as the President of Community College of Denver in April, 2008. Prior to CCD, Bleeker held the position of Vice-President of Educational Services and Chief Academic Officer at Temple College in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to that she served as Dean, Learning and Instruction and Chief Academic Officer at Barton County Community College from 1999 to 2004. She received her Ed.D. at the University of Texas at Austin, Educational Administration, Community College Leadership.

The Honorable Larry L. Bohning is a Denver County Judge in the 2nd Judicial District. Judge Bohning graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University with a major in English and psychology, and graduated from the University of South Dakota College of Law in 1968. After working as a staff attorney for the South Dakota legislature and later as an assistant city attorney for the City and County of Denver, Judge Bohning was appointed to the county court bench in 1990. He served as the presiding county court judge from 1993 through 1995. Judge Bohning promotes the expanded use of technology to benefit the public and the court. Despite his very high volume of cases, Judge Bohning has been an active member of the CCD Foundation since 2000.

Melinda Cox is the Family Preservation/ Core Services Program Administrator for the Colorado Department of Human Services. Melinda has been involved with state and local human service programs since 1993. Melinda graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1992 with a double major in Communication and Psychology. In addition to her dedication to human services, Melinda is extremely committed to the community and serves on a number of boards and commissions, including the Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association Board of Directors, Project WISE Board of Directors, Family Violence Option, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Leadership Denver and the Downtown Denver Partnership Leadership Program.

Marshall Crawford is vice president of JPMorgan Securities. He manages JPMorgan’s Denver Public Finance Office and is responsible for the firm’s public sector investment banking activities in the western United States. He also oversees JPMorgan’s national financing activities for government sponsored surface transportation projects, including such projects as roads, bridges, highway systems and rail. His 20-year investment-banking career includes extensive finance work with more than 30 colleges and universities. Crawford served two terms as commissioner of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, Colorado’s policy-making and general-budgeting board for all the state’s public institutions of higher education. He also served two terms as a member of the board of the Colorado Advanced Technology Institute and as a board member of the CACI Education Foundation. Crawford has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Utah State University.

Joaquín Dulitzky, CFM, CRPC, Chair, who hails from Argentina, is an International Financial advisor and Hispanic Market chief in the Wealth Management division of Merrill Lynch in Denver. Merrill Lynch transferred him to Denver in 2002 from its International Private Banking Group in Buenos Aires, where Dulitzky served as a financial consultant. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, he served the Instituto de Altos Estudios Empresariales, Harvard school, in Buenos Aires as a research assistant, and as an associate professor in math analysis and macroeconomics at the University of Buenos School of Economic Sciences. Dulitzky is a native Spanish speaker, and he is fluent in English, Portuguese and French. Since 1995, he has collaborated with nonprofit organizations in Colorado, Argentina and Brazil, serving on the board of directors of the Junior Achievement Argentina. He currently is a member of the steering committee of the Mile High United Way Latino Initiative (Manos Unidas), and he is the guest expert on international economics and finance for Univisión Colorado news. Dulitzky earned a Licentiate of Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Buenos Aires School of Economics. He also holds a National Bilingual Bachelor degree from the Instituto Libre de Segunda Enseñaza. Dulitzky serves on the Executive, Finance/Investment and Events/Fund-raising Committees.

Chris Figge,Secretary is President and owner of SOS Technologies, supplying business and industry with emergency oxygen inhalators and AED's, as well as CPR and First Aid Training programs. Chris has participated in Access Denver in 2005 and the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Exchange program, also in 2005. Chris is a member of the Ken Caryl Ranch Master Association Board of Directors. Chris is an alumnus of the University of Iowa, where he received his degree in Business Administration in 1976. Chris has a son, Michael, who recently achieved rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 686 in Littleton.

Dennis Gallagher was elected Denver City Auditor in 2003. Prior to that, he served as the Denver City Council member from District 1 in North Denver. He was born and raised in Denver, graduating from Holy Family High School and Regis College (University). He earned his graduate degree in speech from Catholic University in Washington. Gallagher was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 1970, re-elected in 1972, and then elected to the Colorado Senate in 1974. He served through 1994. In 1995, he was elected to the Denver City Council. The redevelopment of the old Elitch Gardens is one of his defining council issues. He is a professor of speech, media, persuasion and the classics at Regis University, where he began his teaching career in 1967. Gallagher, who relishes the city’s history, regularly gives historic neighborhood and cemetery tours. He serves on the foundation’s Events/Fund-raising Committee.

Booker Graves is executive director of the Office of Workforce Development in the Department of Local Affairs. He also served on Governor Owens’ Economic Development Commission. Graves was Denver County Republican Party Chairman during the 2000 campaign. He is the former owner and operator of Graves Airport Concession Consultants (GACC), which he founded after 22 years of progressively responsible positions with major food service companies and Concession Air (formerly Sky Chefs), a leading airport concession operator. Denver International Airport was one of his major clients. In addition, he also was a partner in the York Street Café. Graves is a member of the Greater Denver Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. He has received numerous awards for service, including Corporate Sponsor of the Year for United Cerebral Palsy Association and a special award from the United Negro College Fund. He serves on the foundation Events/Fund-raising Committee.

Bruce Holland, Treasurer, is with Security Title Guaranty Co. Prior, he was with North American Title in Denver. He also founded and was president of Mane Brokers Inc., a chain of hair salons in the Denver area. He also has served as vice president of Dean Witter Securities and Prudential Securities. Holland is chairman of the Denver County Republicans and Senate District 35 in Denver and has a record of success as a party fundraiser. He was appointed by Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell to serve on the U.S. Military Academies Review Board and was invited by the president of the DPS school board, to serve on the Denver Public School Board Bond Issue Committee. Holland currently is a member of the Governor’s Small Business Legislative Council and the Judicial Review Board. He is a member of the foundation’s Finance/Investment, Events/Fund-raising and Board Development Committees. He and his wife, Stacey, and children live in east Denver.

Anna Marie Archuleta-Jones graduated from CCD with the certificate in case management and an Associate of General studies and an Associate of Applied Science in Human Services. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree at Metro State, and her Master's Degree in Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University. The youngest of a family of nine children and a native to Denver Colorado Anna Marie grew up in north Denver(“north side”!) After becoming a single parent Anna Marie enrolled at CCD 20 years later after attending North High school to get a certificate in case management. It was during this time she embraced higher education and the sense of “community” at the Community College of Denver making it a second home. Over the years, Anna Marie has overcome the odds by achieving each goal in front of her and no one knows better then her daughters Mystery (19), Mariah & Mia (16-twins) who continue to be her main source of inspiration and motivation. It is without a doubt they complement each other as Anna Marie proudly speaks about their accomplishments, respect for others and beauty they each exude.  Anna Marie is currently a case manager for the Denver Transfer Initiative at CCD.

Michael Kolbrener is the Senior Vice President of Application Engineering and Architect for a division of Lehman Brothers. Michael has been designing and delivering enterprise technology projects for over 15 years, specializing in the management of multi-platform system implementations. Michael has managed enterprise development projects using Open Source, J2EE, and .NET technologies. Before joining Lehman Brothers,  Michael managed his own application development firm that designed and implemented solutions for the financial industry. Additionally, Michael was CTO for a Webby Award-winning web site, CIO for a national mortgage lender, and Director of Client Services for a cutting-edge technology consulting firm. He has spoken and written in various forums about application development, project management, and technology management, and teaches a class that explores the history of the relationship between fictional and real technology.

Susan Lythgoe is the Executive Director of The Learning Source. She has a Bachelor's degree with honors in English, and has completed the Initial Certification Program with the University of Denver, Graduate School of Education. She is an alumnus of the 1992 Denver Community Leadership Forum. Ms. Lythgoe has consulted in the planning and implementation of high-risk youth, family and adult education programs nationwide, and has directed programs in the Denver metro area for the past eleven years. She joined the staff of The Learning Source as Curriculum Coordinator in January, 1991 and has served as Executive Director since 1993. She has served as Chair of the Colorado Adult Literacy Commission, and was a member of the 1998 Mayor's Human Investment Task Force for the City and County of Denver. She currently serves as a member of the Verizon Literacy Campus Advisory Panel, Advisory Panel member of the Toyota Family Literacy Project, member of the Board of Directors of the Alameda Gateway Community Association, and the Advisory Board of the Family Literacy Alliance in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1995 she received the "Distinguished Leadership Award" from the Colorado Association of Continuing and Adult Educators, and in 2002 she received the Lay Award from both the High Plains and University of Denver Chapters of Phi Delta Kappa International.   

Jennifer R. Reins is a Broker with Coldwell Banker Devonshire. During this decade she has accomplished insurmountable tasks both personally and professionally. Her background is in Real Estate where she has represented high end clients by buying and selling homes, investment properties and commercial properties. Her clients rely on her keen sense of identifying their needs and putting to work her countless skills. Jennifer successfully serviced clients such as Jennifer Lopez and Michael Riley through the company she founded and was president of; Colorado Convention Connection in 2008. The mission was to provide VIP visitors to the 2008 Democratic National Convention with the highest level of service and best possible experience in Colorado. Using her intimate knowledge of Denver’s communities, Jennifer paired Colorado Convention Connection clients with the ideal living arrangements for their stay in the Mile High City. Her true passion is not only Real Estate but Denver and the People. She has exhibited this through her various affiliations with schools, non-profits, associations, chambers, and bureau's. She has the vision to not only achieve significant goals for her clients, her peers, and herself but for Denver, Denver’s community, woman and children.  Jennifer has lived in Denver for 25 years.

Mary Santos is currently the Senior Account Executive with Sempera Professional Services. She is a Colorado native from Manitou Springs with over 10 years experience in sales for the Denver metro area. She accounts much of her success in sales to her previous career as a probation officer for Boulder County, stating that 'it was a constant challenge to work with a large spectrum of personalities and situations. Mary received her BA in Sociology/Criminology from the University of Colorado in 1994. Mary is an active Board Member of the Friends of Denver Fire Department and is very active in her community through the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Mary enjoys rock climbing, attending sporting events, riding horses, traveling, and spending time with her family and boyfriend.

Charlie Walling, Vice-Chair, is general manager of Robinson Dairy, a subsidiary of Suiza Foods. As the foundation’s vice chair, he sits on the Executive, Finance/Investment Committees and chairs the Board Development Committee. Walling transferred to Denver’s Robinson Dairy in August 2000, coming from Suiza’s Schepps Dairy in Houston and Dallas. The Texas native joined the company in February 1981. His civic and business accomplishments include board membership on the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and the Colorado Milk Marketing Board. He is a graduate of the Leadership Denver program through the Chamber. In Texas, he served on the boards of Houston Youth Inc., Houston Grocers Manufacturers Retail Association and the Dallas Restaurant Association. He also served as co-chair of the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce from 1988 to 1992. Walling holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration and Management from Texas Tech University, Lubbock. He and his wife, Valerie, have two sons.  

 

 
  

In Memorium: Jack B. Weil (1928-2008)

Community College of Denver is saddened by the loss of Jack B. Weil, who passed away in his home on January 22, 2008. Jack retired as vice-president of Rockmount Ranch Wear Manufacturing Company in July, 2008.Weil, who has served as foundation chair since October 1998, was on the Executive, Board Development, Bylaws, Finance/Investment and Events/Fund-raising Committees. Following graduation from Tulane University, he served a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. In addition to being a leader in Western wear and equipment industry associations, Weil was extremely active in the community. He served on the planning commissions for the Humboldt Island Historic District and Cheeseman Park, and on the board of directors of the First Universalist Church and the membership committee of the Denver Athletic Club. Weil was a leader in the Republican Party in the state, district and county levels. He held various posts on the Republican Central Committee and was chairman of the First Congressional District for the Republican Party. In 1999, he was elected to the post of secretary of the Colorado Republican Party. Weil accepted Tulane University’s Alumni Recognition Award in 2002.
