TRiO Scholars is a Student Support Services program - one of eight Federal TRiO programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education - to provide academic support for low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities. The program is designed to help students overcome academic, financial, social, and cultural barriers to higher education.

Program Mission

The TRiO Mission is to foster students' success and help them achieve their academic goals through educational case management, advocacy, tutoring, mentoring, resources, academic workshops, and social cultural activities.   TRiO helps students develop responsibility, self-confidence, college awareness, and academic skills during their study at CCD so they can successfully graduate and transfer.

Program Goals

To carry out the mission of our program, we have set specific goals to:

  • serve 200 students each academic year;
  • ensure an environment that increases the potential for academic success and the likelihood of remaining at CCD through graduation and/or transfer;
  • offer consistent and reliable support and guidance and show genuine concern for the interests, well-being and accomplishments of each participant;
  • offer a comprehensive array of activities and services that encourage persistence in the goal to graduate and/or transfer;
  • monitor and assess academic progress; and
  • evaluate the program's performance.
