The Financial Aid Office at the Community College of Denver is committed to helping students obtain funding for college. Both prospective and current students are encouraged to view the information available on this page and through the links under the "Menu" section to the left. Doing so will help students gain a better understanding of the financial aid process. Listed below are some of the most common topics that students ask about.
After applying for admissions or at the beginning of each year, students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at www.fafsa.gov, for the upcoming academic year(s). Completing the FAFSA is the only way for a student to be considered for a financial aid award (unless the student is only seeking private scholarships). The CCD Federal School Code is 009542. Results of the FAFSA are used to determine the financial aid options available to each person.
Students should file the 2010-2011 FAFSA application as soon as possible, if entering, returning to, or continuing college in the fall of 2010, the spring of 2011 or the summer of 2011.
Students should then review eligibility guidelines and apply for the College Opportunity Fund - a stipend provided to eligible undergraduate students that pays a portion of in-state tuition charged by certain educational institutions. Information is available at https://cof.college-assist.org/COFApp/COFApp/Default.aspx.

When it comes to obtaining financial aid, there are many great resources and tools available to students. Typically, CCD will award a student all available options after obtaining the student's FAFSA results. Unfortunately, there are also speculative or even illegal methods being used today that often target students with "pay for information services," "guaranteed money offers," and tactics intended to steal one's identity. CCD recommends researching options carefully and, when in doubt, speaking with a financial aid advisor for guidance. The U.S. Department of Education offers some helpful information for students to keep from being scammed. The site is accessible at http://www.studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/lsa.jsp.
On the left-hand side of this page, students will find a menu of common financial aid topics, including financial aid brochures, a glossary of terms, grants, scholarships, work study, loans, satisfactory academic progress, and information about contacting the financial aid office. If a student has a specific comment about the website, please e-mail: financialaid@ccd.edu.
