Apply as soon as possible after January 1 for the following academic year, which begins with the fall semester. CCD does not have enough grant aid and work study funding for all the eligible aid applicants. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, which means that the earlier you apply, the more likely you will be to receive all the aid you are eligible for. The order in which your FAFSA is completed and the remaining required documents are submitted determines when the award is made.
Since funds are first come first served, you should follow these suggested dates:
Late-applying students should be prepared to pay their own tuition and fees or make deferred payment arrangements - If you apply for financial aid less than eight weeks before the start of the semester, your aid may not be available to pay your tuition and fees.
Awards for the Academic Year - Financial aid awards are made for a maximum of one academic year fall and spring. Students must reapply each academic year to establish their eligibility for continued financial assistance. Eligibility used at another school will count toward these academic year maximums.
Summer Awards -Summer awards are made if funds are still available after the end of fall and spring. Students planning to attend in Summer should register early for their courses. Only registered students are awarded Summer financial aid. Federal Pell eligible students can receive Federal Pell year-round. For additional information contact the Financial Aid Office.

To be considered for financial aid, applicants must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Many scholarship applications also require you to complete the FAFSA.
This application is available on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Follow all instructions carefully. Incorrect applications will result in delays and could cause you to be a late applicant and receive less aid. Be sure to list CCD in the "which schools should receive this information" section. CCD’s school code is 009542.
Assistance in completing the FAFSA is available.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: You must apply each academic year (fall, spring and summer) for all types of financial aid.
When you have completed your on-line FAFSA application, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). At this point, you, the student, has an opportunity to correct or change any information provided on the SAR. This can be done on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov by selecting the button marked Make Correction to a Processed Fafsa.
You can view the Department of Education's answers to Frequently Asked Questions at http://www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov/federalaidfirst/index.html.

We are going DIRECT!!
Beginning with the Spring 2009 semester, Community College of Denver will join the Federal Direct Loan Program. This is a decision that was made by the Colorado Community College System in response to the ongoing volatility of the nation’s credit markets. In the Direct Loan Program, students borrow their federal loans directly from the government, rather than from banks or lenders.
All CCD federal loan borrowers who have not borrowed under the Federal Direct Loan Program will need to complete a new entrance counseling session and sign a new Master Promissory Note (MPN) directly with the federal government. Entrance Counseling is available online at www.dl.ed.gov. To sign a Direct MPN, students should go to http://www.dlenote.ed.gov, select "complete new MPN for student loans," and sign it using their Federal Student Aid PIN -- the one they use to sign their FAFSA on the Web
