Meet the new staff at CCD! Your new faculty, Vice President of Student Success, and Provost of Learning will all be available to meet you and answer your questions. Learn more about how CCD works, and get to know the key administrators that keep this place running smoothly.

August 31, 2010: Campus and Community Resource Fair/Welcome Back BBQSouth Classroom Courtyard and South Classroom Lobby, 11:00am-2:00pm

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity (resolution 61/203). The International Year of Biodiversity is meant to help raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity through activities and events in many countries. The Campus and Community Resource Fair will have representatives from various CCD student service offices and many local Denver community organizations. We will also have many of our student clubs on hand to pass out information about club membership and upcoming events.

September 2, 2010: Campus Involvement Fair*, Tivoli Commons, 10:00am-5:00pm

This is your first look at the opportunities available to you at Auraria with Student Organizations and Student Services offices from all three schools will be out in force vying for your attention and participation! Food and beverages provided.

September 7, 2010: Nick Pike*, Tivoli Food Court, 11:30am-1:00pm

British comedy juggler Nick Pike combines highly skilled and energized routines of juggling, acrobatics, and break-dance with fast paced comedy and volunteer interaction. Nick’s routines, choreographed to modern music, and quick witted British humor have made him a favorite here in the US.

September 8, 2010: Hot Topics*, Tivoli Multicultural Lounge, 11:30am-1:00pm

Hot Topics addresses current events and headline news in an open forum format that gives participants an opportunity to express their knowledge and opinions on the chosen topics. Beverages provided.

September 10, 2010: Rockies College NightCoors Field, 7:00pm-9:30pm

The game is on! Come join us for College Night at the Rockies game. All you need is $5! You can purchase your tickets at CCD Student Life Office or at any CCD sponsored event. So bring $5 and your school spirit and let’s play ball! Limit 4 tickets, no exceptions, first come, first served.

September 13, 2010: Immigration Debate*, Tivoli Turnhalle, 2:30pm-3:30pm

Join the Office of Student Life the second Tuesday of each month, for a 60 minute forum featuring a member of the Colorado Legislature. Food and refreshments will be provided. Tom Tancredo joins us on campus with Craig Biddle, the president of the National Organization to debate immigration reform.

September 14, 2010: John Quinones*, Tivoli Turnhalle, 1:00pm-2:00pm

John Quiñones, a six-time Emmy Award winner, is a correspondent for ABC News' Primetime Thursday who co-anchored the newsmagazines 20/20 Downtown and Primetime Monday. Throughout his career, he has exposed injustice and wrongdoing around the world. Since joining ABC News in 1982, Quiñones has traveled the globe, covering subjects as diverse as the Challengerdisaster, homeless children in Bogota, and the Dalai Lama. Because of his roots, his heart remains with stories that affect his community and culture. Still, he considers himself a “reporter who happens to be Hispanic,” not a “Hispanic reporter.”

September 15-16, 2010: Fall Fest*, Tivoli Commons, 10:00am-4:00pm

Revel in the Auraria community this fall! Food, arts and crafts, live music and art all combine to make this one of the most popular events on campus! Come and join a tri-institutional event where you can familiarize yourself with student organizations, and academic departments. Don’t miss out on free music and free food!

September 17, 2010: Constitution Day*, Tivoli Turnhalle, 10:00am-3:00pm

When was the constitution written? Who wrote it? Why should the constitution be important to you? How does it continue to impact our lives? Join us for a discussion with Stanford History professor Jack Rakove and History Channel presenter Carol Berkin. In between the two, we will also have a constitutional roundtable with our very own Kaylah Zelig and several other professors from MSCD and UCD. Lunch will be provided.

September 21, 2010: Institute for Women’s Studies and Services Open House*, 1033 Ninth Street Park, 3:00pm-5:00pm

The Institute offers a unique combination of an academic women’s studies program with the types of services and activities typically offered through a women’s center. In addition to information about women’s studies and the types of services we offer, the Institute website contains a database of community scholarships to assist students in seeking financial support for their education and information about local community resources for students in need of resources.

September 22, 2010: Corey CiocchettiTivoli Turnhalle, 1:00pm-2:00pm

In his keynotes, Corey encourages people of all ages to chase the truly important things in life such as a solid character, strong personal relationships and a sense of contentment. These “real rabbits” are compared and contrasted to worldly types of success such as excessive wealth, popularity and prestige. Audiences leave with a better sense of what it takes to develop character, set priorities and gain a big-picture perspective.

September 23, 2010: Urban Arts FestivalTivoli Commons, 11:00am-2:00pm

Join us for graffiti, dancing, music and food as we explore “urban” art. Urban art sometimes known as graffiti is a style of art that relates to cities and city life often done by artists who live in or have a passion for city life. The term urban means "from the city", and is sometimes called "street art".

September 29, 2010: Frank Warren*, Tivoli Turnhalle, 1:00pm-2:00pm

Author Frank Warren is the creator of the blog phenomenon PostSecret Project, a collection of highly personal and artfully decorated postcards mailed anonymously from around the world, displaying the soulful secrets we never voice. The website for PostSecret is one of the most popular on the web, and has been featured prominently in the media in USA Today, on the Today Show, 20/20, CNN, MSNBC, CBC, NPR, and FOX News. In 2009, Forbes listed Frank Warren as the 4th most influential person on the internet. Recently the PostSecret website received its 250,000,000 hit and was named Weblog of the Year at the Seventh Annual Weblog Awards.

September 29, 2010: Open Mic Night*, Tivoli Boiler Room, 6:00pm-9:00pm
