ESL Lab - Resources

Resources - the ESL Lab has the following resources available to help ESL students.
 

Tutors– The ESL Lab works with experienced, qualified and trained ESL tutors, many of whom are also adjunct faculty on the ESL program. Tutors ask questions to find out what students need to work on, set an agenda and use Socratic questioning to help students improve their English.

Computers – There are 18 computers in Rooms M and K with access to the internet. Students can research, write and print assignments, check their grades and assignments and practice ESL using ESL software.

Language learning software - Computers in Room K feature the following ESL software for individual study

• Focus on Grammar
• Rossetta Stone (coming soon)
• American Speechsounds (coming soon)

Library – the library has approximately 850 books for ESL students to check out. Many are graded readers designed for ESL learners. Students can check out a book for up to four weeks. Just ask the lab assistant for help.

Pronunciation cassettes – Students can practice their pronunciation by borrowing a cassette player and a pronunciation cassette. See a lab assistant for help with this.

Grammar & vocabulary worksheets – there are copies of worksheets designed for ESL students to practice grammar and vocabulary. Ask a lab assistant to guide you.

Cross-cultural support – the ESL Lab provides more than just academic support. We recognize that ESL learners look for solutions to issues outside the classroom and often the ESL Lab can provide support with culture shock and cross-cultural communication.
