Accounting

With all the job vacancies in bookkeeping and payroll, your skills are in demand.  The accounting field is full of job  opportunities in various areas and industries such as corporations, government and nonprofits.  You could do clerical work, reconciliations, filing, assembling documents, supervision, and management of an accounting department.  Accounting jobs are usually done in office environments where people work regular working hours and overtime can be expected at certain times.  There are also jobs where you may want to be self employed.

Education is valued in the accounting world! Community College of Denver offers certificates and a degree in several areas of accounting.

AAS--Accountant Degree
The Accounting AAS degree program will prepare you to obtain a solid foundation of general education classes plus the accounting classes you'll need for your career.  When you finish, you'll be ready for an entry-level job as an accounting technician, accounts payable or receivable clerk, payroll clerk, tax examiner, cost accountant, and other related jobs in both the public and private sector.

Bookkeeping & Payroll Technician Certificate
This two semester certificate is designed to prepare you as a bookkeeper.  You will obtain the skills you need to perform as an accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll technician with knowledge of QuickBooks and Peachtree, double-entry bookkeeping, and possess strong numerical abilities.

Computerized Accounting Technician Certificate
If you already have work experience and just need to enhance or increase your accounting knowledge, this program could be for you. You can complete the program in two 15-week semesters and gain the skills to do manual and computerized full-charge bookkeeping activities like financial statements, general journals, ledgers, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliation, payroll, bad debts, depreciation, inventory, partnerships, stocks, bonds, cash flow, and manufacturing entries. You’ll be ready for a job as a full-charge bookkeeper, computerized accounting clerk, computerized payroll clerk, and accounting assistant.
