Online Learning FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions)
1. When I try to log into the Desire 2 Learn site, I get a message that says I need my PIN number as my password. How do I find my PIN number? Visit student CCCS website. On the first screen, you will see the student page. Click on CURRENT STUDENT and log in using your S number and click on "FORGOT PIN". Once you have correctly answered your security question, you can reset your PIN. 2. Many science classes require a lab component. How is this handled with online courses? There are a variety of ways we handle labs for online courses. Some courses require you to purchase a lab kit you will use at home. Some courses require you to use a CD that includes lab simulations. There are additional ways labs are handled, BUT you never have to come to campus to complete a lab. For more information, visit http://www.ccd.edu/onlinelearning/. Click on the link in the lower left called "online courses with labs." 3. Where do I get textbook information for online courses? Click here for the online courses textbook list. 4. How do I participate in an online class? Visit ccd.desire2learn.com. If you already have a username (your student ID number) and password (your four-digit PIN), you can use these to log in. . 5. How often must I be online? Plan on being online at least one to three hours per week. There will be considerable work and study OFFLINE, however. Online courses are just as rigorous as campus-based courses and your steady and continued involvement will help put you on the road to successful course completion. The Online Orientation has tools to test your hardware and software capabilities. See FAQ number 5 above. 7. CCD Online and CCC Online - what's the difference? CCD Online is managed and taught by CCD staff and faculty. The courses are developed, designed and approved by CCD. CCC Online is a partnership program developed by the Colorado Community Colleges. All of the community colleges (except Colorado Mountain College and Aims Community College) are members of CCC Online and have agreed to transcript the courses offered by CCC Online because CCC Online is NOT a college. If you elect to take a course through CCC Online, you must first be a CCD registered student. 8. Do I have to own a computer to take an online class? No. If you are a registered CCD student, you can visit the CCD main campus or any satellite campus and use the computer labs there. Call one of the following for lab hours: 9. I registered for my online classes 5 minutes ago, but I can't login to Desire 2 Learn. Why? The Student Information System (where you register) is not on the same computer as Desire 2 Learn. The information must get transferred. This happens every evening at midnight beginning two weeks before the start of the semester. The information continues to get transferred up through the last date to add a course. 10. I changed my PIN number but it did not change in Desire 2 Learn. What did I do? If you change your PIN number on the screens where you register, this information does not automatically carry over to the computer where the Desire 2 Learn courses reside. This means you must edit your personal information after logging into Desire 2 Learn and change your password/PIN there. 11. What number can I call to get technical help? What hours can I call? If you need technical help with Desire2Learn, please call the help desk at 888-800-9198 or go to help.cccs.edu. The helpdesk staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For assistance with ccd.desire2learn.com, please contact 24x7 Technical Support at 1-888-800-9198 |
