Understanding Poverty Conference, September 28, 2012

(Denver, Co) Community College of Denver (CCD) will hold a conference to help higher education professionals understand and serve students who come from poverty. Described as a daylong seminar to help educate, sensitize, and prepare higher education professionals so they may better serve, advise, and support students coming from poverty, the conference will be open to all CCD staff, faculty, students and community partners.

Keynote speaker will be Donna Beegle, President of Communication Across Barriers. An author and activist, Beegle’s vision is to help “organizations and communities who want to improve outcomes for people living in poverty.” Beegle would also like to move “beyond stereotypes and judgment to a deeper understanding of the causes of poverty and its impact on human beings.”

The conference will include a keynote address from Beegle, several breakout trainings and a book signing. It will be held on September 28, 2012, from 9a.m. to 3p.m. in St. Cajetan’s Center on the Auraria Campus.
