CCD Dean and Professor to Speak at National Conference
(Denver, CO) Dean of the Center of Math and Science at Community College of Denver (CCD) Heidi Loshbaugh, Ph.D., and CCD Science Program Chair and Associate Professor Terry Williams will present at the fall 2011 national meeting of the American Chemistry Society August 28-September 4. The conference, entitled “Chemistry of Air, Space, and Water,” will be held at the Denver Convention Center. Several thousand participants from across the country are expected to attend.
Heidi Loshbaugh is the primary author of “The Devil is in the Details: Learning to Cross T’s and Dot I’s in the Academic Workplace,” with collaborators Drs. Heather Thiry and Sandra Laursen. Loshbaugh is the second author of “Charting a Course through the Chemistry Workforce: Misdirected Career Decision Making Among Chemistry Ph.D. Students,” with Thiry as the lead and Laursen as collaborator.
Terry Williams’ presentation, “Bridging the Gap from Community Colleges to a Four-Year College and Beyond: the STEPS Program Best Practices with Non-Traditional and Urban Students,” is based on collaborative research compiled by Williams and her fellow presenters. STEPS is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is geared toward increasing the numbers underrepresented minorities and persons experiencing health disparities in biomedical research. STEPS is a collaboration between Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver, and Community College of Aurora.
