Last week’s shooting at Aurora’s Century 16 Movie Theater shocked and saddened people throughout the state. Many members of the Auraria Campus community (The University of Colorado Denver, Community College of Denver, and MSU Denver) have been directly impacted through connections to the victims of this tragedy.

On Thursday July 26th, at 2:00 pm, the Auraria Campus invites the community to come together and support each other through this difficult time. The vigil will take place in the Tivoli Commons, between the Tivoli Student Union and PE buildings, on the Auraria Campus. “As our entire campus has been affected by the tragedy, it is very important that we pull together as one supportive community during this difficult time” said Gordon Hamby, CU Denver’s Student Body President.

Thursday’s vigil will feature guest speakers from the Auraria community and musical performances; counseling services will also be available. This is a time for the Auraria Campus community and the community at large to come together and show support for each other in any way possible. This event is free and open to the public, anyone who has been directly or indirectly affected by the shooting is encouraged to come.

Free parking will be available for community members who attend the event. Free parking will be provided in the Tivoli Parking garage located on the corner of Auraria Parkway and 9th Street. When leaving the event, inform the attendant that you were at the vigil and parking will be free. Please note that free parking will end one hour following the conclusion of the vigil.
