About the Program

As part of the architectural technology program, the basic and advanced building crafts certificates can be completed in two semesters. Each certificate features an intensive hands-on construction practicum where skills are introduced and developed through guided work on an active construction site.

Academic Support

The architectural technology studio in the Boulder Creek Building is open outside of class hours for students to do independent classwork. Times vary each semester; please check with your instructor for specifics.

Academic support is also provided through the Excel Zone. The Excel Knowledge Zone at CCD helps all students succeed by offering a variety of learning opportunities. The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Zone is located in Cherry Creek Building, rooms 205 & 210.

Financial Aid Eligibility

This program is eligible for federal financial aid.

Your first step is to connect with the Financial Aid office to discover how you can afford college. Our dedicated staff and support services help you wade through all the legal language and get you past the first hurdle to completing your educational goals.

In addition, CCD has $1,000,000 available in scholarships. Apply at CCD.edu/Scholarships.

Stop by the financial aid office on the first floor of the Confluence Building for help with the federal financial aid application. Walk-in hours are offered every Wednesday from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Confluence Building, room 118.

Internships & Service Learning Opportunities

The building crafts certificate program is designed to prepare you for a career in construction. You’ll graduate as a skilled, well-rounded craftsman capable of working as part of a team on residential, industrial or commercial projects.

Building Crafts Internship Course – AEC 280

This non-paid internship course is a field practicum where you will learn and develop the hands-on and intellectual skills involved in the day-to-day tasks of construction. We’ve partnered with Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver to give our students the real-life skills and experience they need to pursue a career in the construction industry.

What Can I Do with My Major?

Increased construction activity is projected to drive growth for a diverse range of construction-related jobs. In addition to providing skills to satisfy the current short-term demand for skilled entry-level construction workers, the building crafts program seeks to prepare students for a future where the demands of construction will require complex problem-solving abilities

There are numerous job possibilities with a building crafts certificate. Construction offers opportunities for hands-on work and the chance to explore diverse career pathways through a combination of basic skills training and subsequent work experience. Some employment possibilities are:

How Much Can I Expect to Earn?

In the first quarter of 2018, labor market information lists an average annual wage for individuals in the construction in Denver as $66,612 ($32.03 hourly). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the median annual wage for architecture/engineering drafters as $54,170 per year ($26.04 per hour) in May 2017.  Graduates can expect to earn $35,000-$45,000 per year for an entry-level position with an A.A.S degree.
